Best Buy recognizes that the impact of climate change poses a major challenge for all of us and that we need to work collaboratively to take bold action to help the planet.
That’s why we participated in LEAD on Climate 2022, a day dedicated to large-scale business lawmaker education and advocacy. The event in May brought together hundreds of businesses and investors committed to robust federal climate action.
We have been working to reduce our environmental impact and have achieved major milestones through our sustainability programs. Since 2009, we have reduced our carbon emissions by 62%, launched initiatives like our Standalone Haul Away Service to keep waste out of landfills, expanded Best Buy outlet stores that help reduce waste by extending the life of products, and helped our customers live more sustainably by offering eco-friendly products.
“Although there is still work to be done, our commitment to the planet remains strong,” said Tim Dunn, Best Buy’s head of environmental sustainability. “We are dedicated to tackling climate change one step at a time to create a better world for our employees, communities, and the planet.”
We joined more than 100 large companies and investors at LEAD on Climate, with a collective purpose to urge the U.S. Congress to pass a package of federal clean energy, transportation, infrastructure, and advanced-manufacturing investments. The event encouraged key lawmakers to:
- Meet the urgency and scale of the climate crisis with federal investments to speed up the transition to affordable, secure, domestic clean energy.
- Seize economic opportunities to lead the world in clean-energy manufacturing and deployment and create jobs, spur innovation, strengthen supply chains, and reduce costs and volatility for businesses and consumers.
- Tackle inequity by targeting climate and clean-energy investments in disadvantaged, rural, and frontline energy communities.
In addition to meeting with key policymakers, we presented Sen. Tina Smith of Minnesota with this year’s “Senate Climate Champion” Award from Ceres, a nonprofit organization transforming the economy to build a just and sustainable future for people and the planet.
