30 Sep: Holiday Workers Find Careers In Best Buy Distribution Centers

Jiggy Oliva was seeking a place to work for a few months during the 2018 holiday season. He got a job at Best Buy and never left.

He started as a seasonal employee at our distribution center in Compton, California, where his brother, Cesar Cervantes, had started working during the previous holiday season. Jiggy landed a permanent part-time role the following January and is now talking about moving into a full-time role.

“I was just looking to make a little money on the side for the holidays,” he said.

18 Aug: Best Buy Education Helps Schools — Not Just Students — Prepare For Distance Learning

With the school year fast approaching, a Texas school district was scrambling to find the technology required for students to engage in distance learning during the pandemic.

The district needed Chromebooks. Lots of them.

Administrators placed an order with their usual tech provider, only to learn that company wouldn’t be able to fulfill it in time for the start of school. So, they turned to Best Buy for help.

Four business days later, they had secured almost 1,700 Chromebooks for their school.

17 Aug: GreatCall Employee Hailed As Hero After Saving Neighbors From Fire

Kevin Arlinghaus was at home watching television when he smelled smoke.

“It didn’t smell like a barbecue. It smelled like burning plastic,” he said.

Kevin — who works for Best Buy subsidiary GreatCall — went outside to investigate and soon discovered a fire in a nearby garage at his townhome community in Carlsbad, California. Within minutes, the garage was fully engulfed in flames.

Kevin is now being hailed as a hero after calling 911 and helping save a 93-year-old woman and her adult grandson.

03 Aug: Employee’s Act Of Kindness Surprises Louisiana Customer

Jenn Bourque was so excited about the great deal she got on a new TV at BestBuy.com that she wasn’t even upset when it arrived with a shattered screen.

She simply drove to her local store in Lafayette, Louisiana, to exchange it. And while she was there, she decided to upgrade to a nicer model.

One problem: She didn’t have her wallet, and she was $7.82 short on cash.

“I’ve got it,” the store associate, Kentrell Balthazar, said to her surprise.

With many states and school districts embracing distance learning because of the pandemic, many parents might soon find themselves working from home while also helping to manage their kids’ virtual schooling.

To help, we’ve launched a new Parent Hub on Best Buy.com. It’s a one-stop resource for exploring all the tech and tips you need to prepare for a new way of learning.

The site includes tech recommendations for distance learning, including laptops, tablets, Wi-Fi routers and computer accessories. Plus, there are tech tip videos and other resources that are designed to help parents’ get the most out of their tech.

Best Buy is proud to announce that we have signed on as a founding member of the Parity.org ParityPledge in Support of People of Color.

It’s a public commitment to interview at least one qualified person of color for every open leadership role that is at the vice president level or higher, including the C-suite and board of directors. There are no quotas or deadlines.

This latest pledge is in addition to the ParityPledge in Support of Women, which we previously signed to increase the representation of women in leadership.

09 Jun: Best Buy To Invite More Shoppers Inside Stores, No Appointment Needed

Best Buy today announced that customers soon will be able to safely and freely shop at the majority of our stores without an appointment. 

Starting June 15, more than 800 locations across the country will begin allowing a limited number of people inside. We’ll also continue to offer contactless curbside pickup and in-store consultations for those who prefer to shop that way.

“Throughout the pandemic, nothing has been more important to us than the safety of our customers and employees,” said Ray Sliva, president of retail.
