20 Feb: With $20 Million Raised, Best Buy Remains Top St. Jude Partner

What does it take to raise $20 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®? Generous customers, passionate employees and big hearts. At Best Buy, all three came together over the holiday season – and the dollars donated set a new record for our company.

In addition, we just completed our fifth season participating in the St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign, and once again earned the top spot among all participating retailers. To date, Best Buy has raised nearly $60 million for St.

09 Feb: Best Buy Investing in Houston’s Post-Hurricane Recovery

About 150 8th grade students at Fleming Middle School in Houston got hands-on and learned how to build their own computers on Friday – with the help of dozens of Best Buy volunteers. It was the latest, but certainly not the last, example of Best Buy’s investment in Houston schools, nonprofits and surrounding community.

Best Buy employs thousands of technically skilled employees in the greater Houston area. Many of them were affected by Hurricane Harvey last August. While we addressed our employees’ immediate needs, we also knew the path to full recovery for them and for the Houston community would be a long one.

08 Feb: Best Buy Adopts United Nations’ LGBTI Standards of Conduct for Business

Best Buy has joined a growing list of companies to adopt the United Nations’ standards for tackling discrimination against lesbian, gay, bi, trans and intersex (LGBTI) people.

The U.N. on Thursday announced that Best Buy is one of 65 companies that has pledged support for its LGBTI Standards of Conduct for Business, which were first announced in September. These standards build on the U.N.’s Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, to which Best Buy aligns its business practices.

Expert health and wellness information from Mayo Clinic is now available to clients of Assured Living, Best Buy’s independent living service for seniors.  

Mayo Clinic’s trusted online tools are where users can find guidance on how to manage their health concerns or find accurate health information to support their wellness goals.

Assured Living clients are now able to use the Ask Mayo Clinic online symptom assessment and Mayo Clinic online wellness assessment tools to research a broad range of health symptoms.

11 Jan: Best Buy Honored for E-Cycling at CES 2018

CES is where the tech world gathers every year to see the newest and coolest technology. It’s also where environmental leadership in the industry is celebrated. 

On Thursday, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) honored Best Buy with a Silver Tier Award in the Sustainable Materials Management Electronics Challenge. Winners were chosen based on their electronics recycling programs and use of third-party certified recyclers whose practices meet strict environmental standards. This is the fourth consecutive year we have been recognized for e-waste recycling by the EPA.

09 Jan: Best Buy opens new Teen Tech Center ahead of CES in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS — The greatest minds in technology have converged on Las Vegas this week for CES, the annual consumer electronics trade show. Media are flocking to see the shiniest new gadgets and innovators are showing off their latest creations.

But the biggest dreamers were 6 miles off the Strip, away from the glitz and glamor.

Tucked inside the Las Vegas-Clark County Library is the newest Best Buy Teen Tech Center, which officially opened on Monday. It’s the 14th location of its kind in the nation.

03 Jan: St. Jude Treatments Turn Employee’s Grim Diagnosis into Bright Future

You can sum up Jeremy Finney’s approach to fighting cancer with this visual: At 16 years old, he rode his bike 8 miles each way to and from radiation treatments.

That’s grit.

He showed no symptoms of cancer until he woke up one morning with a grapefruit-sized tumor in his neck. As a swimmer, football player and cyclist, getting aggressive treatment for Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma was the last activity Jeremy planned to squeeze into his busy schedule. But the next day he had his first of several surgeries and started treatment.

23 Dec: Best Buy Employees Bring Holiday Cheer to Kids in Hospital

Some elves from Best Buy met at Children’s Hospital of Orange County on Thursday to help unload a car full of toys.

Best Buy store and district leaders in southern California donated the new, unwrapped gifts. The hope was that each present would lift the spirits of sick kids who must spend their holiday in the hospital.

“The minute we asked, without hesitation they all jumped in,” said Grace Valencia, a human resources manager. “That’s just the great culture we’ve built.”

19 Dec: Chicago Teen Tech Center Students Become Hollywood Filmmakers

Students from the Best Buy Teen Tech Center in Chicago spent a week on set helping to film a Hollywood movie. Now, they can see the result of their work from their own living room.  

Alternate Universe: A Rescue Mission, a sci-fi family adventure starring Steve Guttenberg, is now available on DVD and digital and on-demand platforms. The movie is part of the Fresh Films teen filmmaking program supported by Best Buy.

Students at the Teen Tech Center at Little Black Pearl, a nonprofit cultural arts center, experimented with green screens and learned how visual effects are created as they filmed some of the movie’s most complex scenes.
