19 Apr: Join us in living a more eco-friendly life

At Best Buy, we’re proud to play our part in creating a more sustainable future, from launching green initiatives to offering products that help the earth (and your wallet). From Earth Month and beyond, here’s how we’re taking care of our planet, and helping our customers do the same:

Reduce, reuse, recycle and repair

If your device or appliance isn’t working quite right, Geek Squad can help determine if repairing it is an option to extend its life.

That old technology you never use anymore doesn’t need to go in the trash.

29 Mar: Brooklyn is home to Best Buy’s newest Teen Tech Center

Jasmine Morris has been going to the King’s Highway branch of the Brooklyn Public Library almost daily since seventh grade. Now, a little over two years later, there’s more reason than ever to visit.

That’s because the library is now home to a Best Buy Teen Tech Center, a free, interactive learning space where teens like Jasmine can explore technology and learn how to use it. There are computers, cameras, virtual reality devices, a 3-D printer and full music studio.

“My first time going to the center, it was literally jaw-dropping,” Jasmine, 14, said at a grand opening event on Thursday.

28 Mar: Why Best Buy is an HRC Best Place to Work

Best Buy landed a top spot on the annual Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Corporate Equality Index, achieving a perfect rating of 100 and earning the designation as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” for the 14th year.

HRC’s Corporate Equality Index benchmarks and reports on how companies are helping to achieve workplace equality for LGBTQ employees.

At Best Buy, inclusivity is not only our policy, but it’s embedded in our culture. Our leaders encourage employees to “bring their whole selves” to work, and they mean it.

14 Mar: Best Buy Joins 160+ Companies in Support of Equality Act

Best Buy has joined the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and more than 160 leading U.S. businesses to support the Equality Act, federal legislation that would add non-discrimination protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people to U.S. civil rights laws.

Support for this legislation demonstrates our commitment to non-discrimination and determination to foster a diverse and inclusive environment for employees and customers. And, consistent with Best Buy’s value to “unleash the power of our people,” we believe that people thrive when they are treated with fairness and respect and can be themselves.

Climate Change Card

22 Jan: Best Buy named to top tier of companies fighting climate change

Best Buy’s environmental report card is out – and we’re at the top of the class when it comes to tackling climate change.

It’s a big deal for us because CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project) is the global authority on environmental issues, including climate change.

This is the third time CDP has recognized Best Buy as an environmental leader on the Climate A List. The distinction puts Best Buy among the top 5 percent of companies participating in CDP’s climate change program.

Why you are attending COP24?

I am thrilled to be part of Climate Generation’s Window into COP24 program. Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy is an organization dedicated to climate education, youth leadership and citizen engagement for innovative climate change solutions.

Cleveland Teen Tech Center

16 Nov: Cleveland Teen Tech Center is filling the talent pipeline

When you think of tech jobs, it’s often the creators of products and services who come to mind – the programmers, engineers and entrepreneurs.

But tech jobs come in many shapes and sizes. Some are behind the scenes, but just as crucial, like repair technicians or quality control associates. Through our Best Buy Teen Tech Centers, we are preparing teens for all of the tech jobs of the future.

Our newest Teen Tech Center in Cleveland is doing just that. Regency Technologies, one of our longstanding electronics recycling partners, co-sponsored this Teen Tech Center, specifically with our Career Pathways program in mind.

Paper gift cards

12 Nov: Paper or plastic? New gift cards are made from trees

When it comes to selecting a gift for someone, you can rarely go wrong with a gift card to their favorite store. And now, when it’s a Best Buy gift card, you can feel good about how it’s made.

That’s because we’re saying “Bye-bye!” to plastic gift cards and “Season’s Greetings!” to gift cards made of paper.

Why the switch? It all comes down to what happens to the gift card after the last cent is spent. Our new gift cards and packaging can go right into the recycling bin.

12 Oct: Consider conservation during Energy Efficiency Month

October signals the start of cozy sweaters, pumpkin-spiced everything and color-changing foliage. It’s also National Energy Efficiency Month.

While energy efficiency is something that we can practice every day, October’s a good time to reacquaint ourselves with our connection to energy and how we use it.

National Energy Awareness Month, which began in the early 1990s, raises awareness of the importance of sustainably managing the nation’s energy resources. Over the decades of celebrating energy efficiency in October, the conversation has expanded to incorporate multiple elements of energy conservation, such as highlighting the food/water/energy nexus.
