01 Sep: Philadelphia sales advisor celebrates her Puerto Rican heritage through art

Editor’s note: Best Buy is proud to honor Latinx Heritage Month and celebrate our Latinx employees and communities. Read on for the story of one of our employees.

Philadelphia sales advisor Lily Vega and her sister, Vanessa, were introduced to art at a young age. They would often watch their father draw cars in notebooks, learned of their uncles’ famous sculptures in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and followed along with their aunt’s New York fashion business.

This family legacy led to the sisters’ passion for art and drawing.

19 Aug: Retail supervisor captures picture-perfect team culture

Jay Minyety never took his photography skills seriously until someone expressed interest in purchasing one of his pictures. That’s when Jay, then an associate in the digital imaging department of Best Buy Store 1028 in Midtown Manhattan, New York, decided to focus on his passion.

Today, Jay is a retail supervisor at Store 821 in Raleigh, North Carolina. As the “culture captain” in the store, he uses his camera to foster a fun and inclusive environment for his team.

“The feeling of capturing a moment with people, I feel satisfied knowing that I’m able to tell a story through pictures,” he said.

21 Jun: ‘Seasoned’ Best Buy employee making mark behind the grill

Matt Lokay wasn’t always comfortable around fire. But when his dad traveled for work, as he often did, Matt took on the task of running the grill at home.

Back then, he just hoped he wouldn’t blow up anything.

“The ignitor didn’t work, so my mom and I would cross our fingers as we threw the match into the grill to light the propane,” he said.

The aspiring cook — who said he’s always been a “foodie” and shadowed his mother and grandmother in the kitchen — got his first taste of barbecuing at just age 9.

Thankfully, she didn’t have to because her manager pointed her to an internship within the company.

17 Jun: Like father, like son: Badges run in Oklahoma family

For some, a great way to start the day could be watching the sun rise or sipping a perfect cup of coffee. But for Shelby Norton, it’s all about family.

“Morning started out great with my dad presenting my badge to me,” he posted on social media with a photo of himself and his dad, Jim.

As is customary for many badge ceremonies, there was an element of surprise for Shelby, a Home Theater Agent in USO 1804 in Oklahoma. His supervisor, John Holbrook, set up the event for him and a few other Cadets and Agents in March.
