28 Jan: Geek Squad Goes Extreme at the Winter X Games

Geek Squad is gearing up to go for gold this week at the X Games Aspen 2016.

Chris Heppding will race in the snowmobile SnoCross adaptive final tonight, and then 2008 silver medalist Brett Turcotte and his McGuire Motorsports teammate, Josh Penner, will compete in the snowmobile freestyle final Friday night.

22 Jan: Get Your Home’s Wireless Network Up to Speed

Everything is connected to the internet today; it’s called the Internet of Things for a reason, right? The average American household has at least eight devices connected to the home wireless network.

home networking buyer’s guide. [/callout]Being so connected is great, but when you have that many devices under one roof working at the same time, it bogs down the Wi-Fi.

12 Jan: Keep Your Tech Safe When Winter Weather Hits

While you’re busy bundling up to stay warm when icy Arctic air hits, don’t forget to protect your tech devices from the cold weather, too.

Frigid temps can sap battery life and crack screens. Snow and slush — any moisture, really — can wreak havoc on batteries, circuits and speakers. And wild temperature swings from moving between indoor heat and outdoor cold can damage screens.

Here’s some advice for protecting your smartphone and other mobile devices when cold and wet weather hits, as well as a tip for trying to save a wet gadget.

30 Dec: No Lines, New App: Geek Squad Makes it Easier to Get Help

That’s why Geek Squad has made the experience of getting your tech products fixed more convenient and efficient.

Geek Squad has eliminated lines at the Precincts inside Best Buy stores by implementing a new reservation system. And a new Geek Squad mobile app (available at your favorite app store) will let you make appointments, track repairs, view service plans and more from wherever you are.

Making a reservation ensures that an Agent will be able to help you at the time and location that’s most convenient for you.

24 Oct: Geek Squad Technology Hub Opens at Minnesota High School

Geek Squad is going back to school with a purpose in suburban Minneapolis.

The first-ever Geek Squad Technology Hub opened this week at Edina High School, and it will be staffed by an Agent for four hours each week who will triage devices, analyze tech problems and educate teachers and students about technology.

“Most of the youngsters in this building have grown up with technology, so they know how it works,” said Butch Cavello, a Geek Squad vice president. “What we want to do is enhance that experience to ensure they are getting the most out of their tech, and maybe they’ll teach us a thing or two.

07 Oct: Best Buy’s Geek Squad, NETGEAR Team to Create New Wi-Fi Router

American households have more connected devices than ever. Yet many of us often overlook the reality that adding devices — from smartphones to computers to televisions — can strain our Wi-Fi networks and slow down connection speeds.

To help solve these connection problems, Best Buy and Geek Squad have joined with NETGEAR to create a single solution that combines the high-performance NETGEAR Nighthawk DST AC1900 router with Geek Squad setup and a year of free continuing online and phone support.

The router, built to the specifications of Best Buy, can keep up with the growing number of connected devices in the home, while also virtually eliminating Wi-Fi dead zones.

Best Buy partnered with OurCycle LA, a City of Los Angeles digital inclusion pilot program geared at providing free refurbished computers and training to low-income families in Los Angeles.

At Best Buy, we are committed to continuously improving our environmental performance. We focus where we can make the most impact – such as reducing our carbon emissions in our operations and selling sustainable products.
