You already know Best Buy sells all the latest tech products. Did you know we make some of them, too?

We manufacture hundreds of unique products —from cellphone cases to smart TVs — under our five private-label brands: Insignia, Rocketfish, Platinum, Modal and Dynex. And we’ve been doing it for 15 years this month!

These products are only sold at Best Buy, providing great value for our customers. We don’t just slap our name on another company’s products. We have a team of 200 employees in Asia and North America that handles every step of the process, from generating ideas to engineering to production and packaging.

09 Jun: Some Best Buy Products Now Have Sustainable Packaging

At Best Buy, we want our customers to be excited about the latest tech. We also have a story to tell about the packaging those products come in. We’re excited to share that we’ve made some small but impactful changes to the packaging of our private label products so that it’s better for the environment.

Our Modal brand cellphone case packaging is now made 100 percent from bioplastics, a material that breaks down over time.

If a product is made from bioplastics, that means it has the same properties as plastic, but is made from plants and is biodegradable.

23 Mar: Fewer Chemicals, Same Fire Safety for Insignia TVs

Note: This story has been updated.

Over the past several years, there has been heightened awareness about potentially hazardous chemicals in products. Consumers have become increasingly aware of what they put on their skin, handle on a daily basis and store in their homes. Some consumer electronics contain chemicals necessary to protect against immediate safety concerns like fire hazards. At Best Buy, we’re actively working to protect our consumers through safer alternatives or by eliminating potentially harmful chemicals.

With that in mind, we’re making improvements to our private label products.
