10 Jun: Best Buy’s Geek Squad Academy Camps Begin Today

If learning robotics, making music and writing code sound more fun than swatting mosquitoes and singing around a fire, the camps offered by Geek Squad Academy (GSA) are where to be this summer.

No sleeping bags are required at Best Buy’s GSA camps, but students do need to pack curiosity and creativity. With hands-on access to computers, tablets, and other techy gadgets, they’re joining the more than 20,000 past attendees in learning new skills, gaining confidence and getting a head start on their futures.

Teen Tech Week Geek Squad

13 Mar: Geek Squad Leads Teen Tech Week’s ‘Hour of Code’ Events in 10 Cities

The room at the Arlington Hills Community Center library in St. Paul, Minnesota, was silent Wednesday while teens used tablets to learn computer coding on the popular game Angry Birds.

Determined fingers dragged and dropped parts of code, and strategically placed them in the right order to move on to next level.

“I completed puzzle eight!” one girl yelled out after finishing a tough round of code.

More than 3,000 schools and libraries across the country celebrated Teen Tech WeekTM, engaging in activities such as the coding game, provided by the nonprofit Code.org

A piano made out of bananas. A Play-Doh Tetris game. A whisk and pie-tin drum set.

Geek Squad was there to show visitors some cool – and fun – things that can be done with technology, and show off Geek Squad Academy, which seeks to inspire young people through technology.

25 Aug: Geek Squad Agent Doubles as a Semipro Wrestler? Believe It.

By day, Geek Squad Agent Chuck Weeden pins down technology problems for Best Buy customers at the Auburn Hills store in suburban Detroit.

But after work, Weeden, a.k.a. “Big Money,” tackles opponents as a semipro wrestler with the Michigan Championship Wrestling Association (MCWA).

Weeden’s signature move? The “Cash Out,” fittingly enough.

“I scoop up my opponent and as I slam him down I wrap my arm around his neck, pretty much landing on his neck as I come down,” he said.

24 Jul: Turn Back the Clock for Geek Squad’s 20th Birthday: ’94 vs. 2014

What better time to reminisce about the technology of two decades ago than this, the Geek Squad’s 20th birthday year.

14 Jul: Geek Squad’s 20th Birthday Has a Nice (NYSE) Ring to It

Geek Squad passed on the sheet cake for its 20th birthday.

Instead, Geek Squad hit Wall Street and celebrated its 20th birthday by ringing the bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

President of Geek Squad Chris Askew was flanked by some of the nation’s best and brightest who wear black and orange (in addition to a couple hand-picked and lucky Blue Shirts, too).

“This trip means the world to me,” said Cody Halvorson, a Precinct Agent from Reno, Nev., who was the individual to ring the bell.
