For Phillip, a Geek Squad Agent in Arizona, that wasn’t a big change from his routine prior to COVID-19. The avid gamer would regularly conquer missions on Arma 3, a military game that led him to collaborate with players from around the world, many of whom he now calls friends.

Matt Polski is taking advantage of all this time at home by mixing some catchy quarantine-inspired jingles.

Creativity comes naturally for Matt, who works in marketing at Best Buy. So far, his song catalog includes “Does anybody know what day it is?” and “What do you do when you’re quarantined?”

“There are people going through really nasty situations right now. They’re losing jobs, health, family members and friends,” he said. “Hopefully these songs can give people a brief escape from external stressors.”

Meet Tom Oswald. He’s a mild-manned father of two and hard-working Best Buy employee in San Antonio. But put him in front of a vintage Mortal Kombat arcade game and his heart starts pumping and he becomes “Mortal Tombat” — the guy who never loses.

“About four years ago, I was at a video game convention and started playing the Mortal Kombat II game they had there,” Tom said. “The guy who owned it said, ‘No one can beat me.’ I beat him 10 times in a row and went the rest of that weekend without losing.”

04 Dec: Best Buy stores open late for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Mario, Link and Pikachu are back for the ultimate faceoff.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Nintendo Switch, one of this year’s hottest new games, comes out later this week. And Best Buy will be open late, so you can be one of the first to take it home and play all night long.

More than 600 Best Buy stores across the country will open for the release at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time on Friday, Dec. 7. (That means Thursday, Dec. 6, at 11:01 p.m.

Attention gamers: Nintendo has come out with a groundbreaking video game innovation. It’s (drumroll) …cardboard?

Yes, Nintendo Labo is taking gaming to the next level by encouraging good old-fashioned creativity and activity.

“It’s not the usual way to play video games or interact with your video game system,” says Blue Shirt Tomas Manning, a gaming expert in Little Rock, Arkansas. “It’s sort of blending the digital and physical. You’re actually holding something you just created.”

And they’re creations you made yourself from a cardboard kit.
