As a company, Best Buy aims to protect the environment, conserve natural resources, and prevent pollution. To do so, we continue to act year-round to do better for the planet, our employees, customers, and the communities we serve.

Since 2009, we have achieved major milestones in our sustainability programs by:

Reducing our carbon emissions by 62%
Recycling more than 2 billion pounds of electronics and appliances
Offering a wide variety of sustainable products to help customers reduce their carbon emissions

Back in October, Best Buy in collaboration with Apple announced a first-of-its-kind upgrade program called Upgrade+, making it easy for customers to experience and upgrade to the latest Mac laptops with Apple silicon, including MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, for an incredibly affordable monthly payment.

07 Dec: Best Buy makes Newsweek’s 2023 Most Responsible Companies list

Best Buy is proud to be named to Newsweek’s list of America’s Most Responsible Companies for the fourth year in a row.

Newsweek compiles this list in partnership with Statista to recognize the 500 most responsible companies in the U.S. across 14 industries. It’s based on publicly available environmental, social and governance data and an independent survey of U.S. residents.

Our individual environmental score was also 92.50, making us the top retailer in that category. We earned an overall score of 76.90 out of 100, ranking No.

Over 50 years ago, on April 22, 1970, the first celebration of Earth Day took place. More than 20 million Americans gathered to celebrate a day that would mark the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement.

19 Jul: Best Buy moving away from single-use plastic bags

Starting this month, Best Buy will begin working with customers to create a more sustainable future together, one bag at a time.

Beginning July 19, customers shopping in-store will have the option to purchase a plastic bag for 10 cents or are encouraged to bring their own bags for purchases to help reduce plastic waste headed to landfills.

“As we continue to work toward our goal to be a more sustainable company, we are focused on reducing our waste and finding new ways to work with our customers to make a positive impact on the planet,” said Tim Dunn, Best Buy’s head of environmental sustainability.
