10 Dec: Canadian employee defends boys getting bullied on the train

Nina Safaei wishes someone had stood up for her when she was being bullied in high school. So, when she saw two boys being harassed by another passenger aboard a commuter train, she didn’t hesitate to step in.

Nina was riding the train in Vancouver, British Columbia, recently when she noticed a man becoming agitated toward two boys who were playfully enjoying their ride. Then, he pushed one of them.

“I was angry and sad and shaking when I saw it happening,” Nina recalls.

03 Oct: A customer in need receives Minnesota employee’s kind deed

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a memory card packed with pictures is priceless. Just ask Anne Taylor.

She flew to Minneapolis on a special mission to photograph her niece’s senior pictures. When Anne landed, she knew she’d need to buy a memory card for her DSLR camera. But what she didn’t expect to capture was the selfless kindness of a Best Buy employee.

Finding the specific memory card Anne needed proved to be easier said than done. The Richfield, Minnesota, store located just down the road from the airport was sold out of the card at the time, and so were the nearest Best Buy stores.

17 Sep: Best Buy Community Grants bring career possibilities into focus

When Lesly Tobon first looked down the lens of a professional camera, something within her clicked. She began to get curious about the things on the other side of the lens, a fascination that developed into a college major and career aspirations she might not otherwise have imagined.

Because of the dedication of nonprofit organizations like The Friends of EXPO Center — where Lesly first got to test out camera technology — and the financial support of Best Buy Community Grants, she and thousands of students like her get to open doors that help them see what’s possible.

On the way home from her doctor’s office after undergoing a medical procedure, Judy Cruse stopped in at the Best Buy store in Dublin, Ohio, to shop for a camera tripod.

Suddenly, she felt dizzy and weak. Associates guided her into a comfortable chair and summoned Asset Protection Specialist Don Klein for help.

“She was fanning herself and out of breath,” Don said. “Being in warehouse management in my past career and in sports my entire life, there were certain things I knew to watch for.”

19 Jul: American dream comes true for employee in Oklahoma

Aniket Valand landed in New York City in 2013 with only one word in his English vocabulary: hi.

As a 17-year-old immigrant from India, Aniket didn’t how to speak the language, but he did understand the notion of the American dream. Today, the Best Buy employee’s own dream came true as he raised his right hand at a naturalization ceremony in Oklahoma City — nearly six years to the day since he first stepped on American soil.

“When I was in India, I was dreaming about my future in the United States.

16 Jul: Wisconsin store rebuilds, reopens after fire

Our Best Buy store in Kohler, Wisconsin, reopened its doors recently after damage from an electrical fire closed them in March.

In addition to new walls, flooring and paint, the store now has an expanded appliances section, a new Geek Squad consultation area and more. While the store was closed for rebuilding, employees were offered shifts at other Best Buy locations. The company also paid them for time spent volunteering in the community.

To welcome back customers and employees, the store held an event on July 6 that included photo ops with local first responders, giveaways and a live radio broadcast.

The anticipation of visiting a hospital for sick children can stir a range of emotions. 04 Mar: 4-year-old Best Buy ‘employee’ dresses the part at preschool

When he’s not at preschool, Jaxson Vercruyssen works in the cellphone department of the Best Buy store in Fairfax, Virginia. Or so he says.

The 4-year-old believes this so strongly that when his mom told him she is sure he could someday work at Best Buy, Jaxson definitively replied: “I already work there. My manager has been calling me and I need you to take me there at 7:00.”

So last Friday, for career day at his preschool, the tot knew exactly what he wanted to be.

31 Jan: Best Buy teammates, a cancer survivor and a trip to St. Jude

Christian Crawford and Denton Olson are sales consultants at Best Buy who took a journey to the place that saved Denton’s life. The teammates at the Best Buy store in Columbia, Missouri, traveled to Memphis to visit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® as participants in a health study looking at long-term effects of cancer treatment.

Denton is alive and healthy thanks to breakthroughs discovered by scientists and doctors at St. Jude — work that continues every day because of generous donations, including those made at Best Buy during our St.
